History

The Hostage was formed in 2005 as Stop Star, which was an alternative rock band based out of Henderson, Tenn. Stop Star was a fairly successful band for about three years and had at least three hours of original music. The band played around 20 shows -including one in Chicago- and won several battle of the bands. Stop Star released a two-track demo called "Peaced Together" and a full-length album called "The Search For the Yeti." Ultimately, however, the individual members of Stop Star began to realize that despite their love for alternative rock, they continued to add more progressive elements to their songs. This non-standard direction was not welcomed by the rural audience. Wanting to solidify their new alternative/progressive direction and find an audience they could claim as their own, the members of Stop Star moved the operation to Memphis and formed The Hostage. The Hostage is a relatively new band in the Memphis scene, although one would not guess so based on how quickly they have been welcomed into the fold. Fully assuming the new mantle in April 2008, The Hostage began performing several times per month in August. The group has played several larger events including the Mid-south Fair and the Chester County BBQ Festival. The Hostage also performs at local music venues including the New Daisy Theatre in Memphis and Main St. Live in Jackson, Tenn. The group has played with other reputable acts such as East of Innocence, Perspective, Stereoside, and Infantdecibel. The Hostage is available for higher billing on local events and as for support for national acts.
