Orphanos announces its third annual Memphis Messiah Concerts for Children at Risk.
Orphanos is a Cordova charity who has partnered with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts to offer Handel’s timeless masterpiece, The Messiah, as a benefit concert at 7p.m. Dec.13. This concert is the Memphis Symphony’s second highest attended event behind only the Sunset Symphony.
This is a unique time for the partnering organizations because The Messiah will not only be available to the public, but it is also given to 5400 Memphis school children free of charge! On Dec. 12, there will be three abbreviated performances for Memphis City School Title 1 students in the 4th and 5th grades from 30+ schools as well as students from the Jubilee School system. News Channel 3 on air personalities Markova Reed and Claudia Barr will be the Masters of Ceremony at the concerts. During the week leading up to the event the children are given curriculum to educate them on concert etiquette, vocabulary, tone painting, and elements of contrast in Baroque music, musical notation, conducting, codas and much more!
The Dec. 13 performance is a public performance and tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster. Tickets range from $30-$50.
