The Center provides the music and the public is invited to bring their lunch or purchase the goodies in the Folklore Store such as vegetarian greens, hot water cornbread or peach cobbler. Either way, the free Brown Bag Concerts at the Center for Southern Folklore Store on Thursdays and Fridays are one of the best reasons to live/work in downtown Memphis. The Folklore Store is located at 123 S. Main Street @ The Peabody Place Trolley Stop in the heart of downtown Memphis.

The Bourbones features four of the hardest rocking young blues musicians that ever came out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. They were one of the "hot picks" in the Kansas City Blues News, which led to their being recorded by Memphis scholar and musician William Lee Ellis at their last appearance at the Center for Southern Folklore in April, 2008.
