Messiah – Part, the First

When: Sunday, December 20, 2009, 11 a.m.

Where: Lindenwood Christian Church

Cost: Free

Age limit: All ages

Categories: Christian, Music Gospel, Holiday

Description: Since its first performance in 1742 at Dublin’s Foundling Hospital, Handel’s “Messiah” has become one of the most revered and performed of all oratorios. It has been presented thousands of times with numerous and quite varied musical resources, including staged versions with hundreds of actors - and even live animals, and with very large choruses and orchestras.

However, the premiere chorus consisted of 21 singers with small chamber orchestra, and as they have for many years, The Gary Beard Chorale, Orchestra and Soloists present Part, the First (The ‘Christmas’ portion) of this favorite work with musical resources, tempi and pacing much in keeping with that debut performance. Please join us for this beautiful musical depiction of the Advent and Birth of Christ.
