Kerry Freedman lectures in the Hohenberg Auditorium, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art in Overton Park.
A professor of Art Education at Northern Illinois University, Freedman's research focuses on questions concerning the relationship of curriculum to art, culture, and technology.
Throughout her career, she has investigated social aspects of art education and promoted cultural understanding through her teaching, research, and writing. Recently, she has focused particularly on questions concerning student engagement with visual culture and issues surrounding curriculum change in light of postmodern educational conditions. In this presentation, "Visual Culture: Contemporary Art, Contemporary Learning," Freeman discusses how the range of visual culture works to define our lives by shaping pathways to learning and how we can harness these pathways to improve education.
