Description: ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Illicitizen started as a side project for Singer-Songwriter Eric Cavanaugh for items that were too “arty” for his conventional outfit (The Blots).
Originally a solo project Illicitizen released one single (Detached) in 2002 on the Sticky Gum Release (SGE001) “Communists Are Just Part Time Workers” (a compilation of South Eastern American artists). After The Blots reached their potential Cavanaugh revisited the Illicitizen project with renewed vigor and fleshed out the rank(s) with a programmed rhythm section and bassist Maria Zaccaro. The two quickly moved forward writing eleven songs for their first album and have set out to start play-testing them live before formally recording beyond the demo stage.
This music moves to the space beyond the post-punk rock that inspired the two to start playing music. The two piece started playing live shows in October of 2007. In this time they have played five dozen shows in the Carolinas, Virgini!
a and Georgia. They have been steadfast in that every song should sound different and provide some diminishment of tired genre identifications.
