Relatively new on the local scene, the four-man The Sheriffs of Nottingham formed in early 2008 and after a year of honing their sound are having a bit of a coming out party this weekend with the release of their debut EP, Hard Places. Led by singer and rhythm guitarist Justin Jamerson, the Sheriffs of Nottingham are a blues-rock band with the emphasis more on the latter than the former. Blues is a foundational element for groove-oriented hard rock. Lead guitarist Kevin Lipe is an able soloist, but, on record at least, the band doesn’t lean on guitar heroics the way lots of other blues-rock bands do, sticking to tight, rhythmic songwriting.

The Sheriffs of Nottingham celebrate the release of Hard Places at Young Avenue Deli on Saturday, November 14th. Showtime is 9 p.m. Cover is $5. Ages 18+. (article by Chris Herrington)
