GYPSY HOMBRES. Not just another "Hot Club" franchise, Peter Hyrka and the Gypsy Hombres dare to be different. Founded by noted Memphis violinist Peter Hyrka (Memphis' NARAS Premier Player Hall Of Fame), in 1996, the Hombres set out to take the classic Django Reinhardt gypsy sound and point it in new and fresh directions. While there are many groups that continue to revisit the sound of the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, the GYPSY HOMBRES strive to maintain the integrity of the style and the energy of the performance while molding a more contemporary approach.

Peter Hyrka was born and raised right here in the Home of the Blues. He received early instruction in accordion, clarinet, guitar, and piano, but, after being introduced to the violin, he never looked back. In high school he first encountered the jazz stylings of Joe Venuti, Stephane Grapelli, et al. Hyrka went on to develop his chops in rock, bluegrass, country, and reggae bands (he firmly assents to Duke Ellington's observation that there are only 2 kinds of music--good and bad) before forming Victims of Circumstance and, later, the rock band Human Radio.

Here’s what critics are saying about Django Bells

"...a stroke of genius... except for Phil Spector no musician has ever made a decent holiday album, until now... very musical..." -- Pulse Magazine

"...4 Stars... Tight arrangements backed with stellar musicianship..." -- Downbeat Magazine

"Perhaps the most original title and concept on our Christmas compilations... a thoroughly enjoyable mix..." -- Jazziz Magazine

"...definitely a kick to hear... There’s some wonderful, jazzy jamming on this disc..." -- Mix Magazine

All three CDs, Nouveau, 2005, Cafe Strut, 2003, and Django Bells, 2002, are available through Amazom.com and CDbaby.com
