Music stars from Hollywood and Tibet will descend on Memphis, TN, USA to promote peace with the Dalai Lama and to participate in two events held at The Cannon Center celebrating His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s first visit to the Mid-South.
An afternoon public talk by the DALAI LAMA entitled, “DEVELOPING PEACE AND HARMONY,” begins at 1:30 p.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m on Sept. 23, 2009. The event will include a short opening program featuring special guest stars including internationally famous Tibetan musicians, NAWANG KHECHOG and LOTEN NAMLING, and GIDEON BENDILE, a vocalist from The Lion King soundtrack and performer from Broadway and London’s West End.
That same evening, THE MISSING PEACE CONCERT will star headliner NATALIE COLE featuring THE MEMPHIS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. with opening performances by country star Joe Nichols, rising singer/songwriter and VH1 artist Matt Nathanson, Nawang Khechog and Loten Namling, and other guest stars (to be announced in coming weeks).
Ms. Cole will perform up to 45 minutes of her hits as well as classics from her recent CD, Still Unforgettable, which won multiple Grammy Awards earlier this year. Ms. Cole has successfully recuperated from a kidney transplant in May that made global headlines and is returning to the stage this month.
Tickets for both events go on sale Sept. 4 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster at www.Ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Cannon Center box office (open 12 noon - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday and on show days).
Prices start at $35. Admission ranges from $35 to $85 for the Dalai Lama's talk and from $35 to $65 for The Missing Peace concert starring Natalie Cole. VIP packages featuring prime seats to both events are available at $198.
Both the Dalai Lama’s talk and the evening MISSING PEACE CONCERT are being sponsored by The Missing Peace Project and co-sponsored by The Committee of 100 for Tibet and the Dalai Lama Foundation, with additional sponsor support by Methodist Lebonheur Healthcare, The Cannon Center, and the Memphis and Shelby County Film and Television Commission.
The Missing Peace events and the historic Memphis Visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama are being organized on behalf of The Missing Peace by producers Rebekah Alperin Kotselas, a Memphis-born entertainment executive and independent filmmaker now living in Los Angeles and independent film and TV producer, Chantel Sausedo, a talent executive on the Grammys.
