Exceptional cast made up entirely of high school, middle, elementary students. "Les Miserables" showcases some of the finest young voices in DeSoto County and the greater Mid-South area. DeSoto Family Theatre’s production in April is the first time a community theatre in the area has staged this show with its challenging vocal score.
This school edition show runs over two hours and features the much loved songs from the original version.
This international smash-hit may be the most popular musical in the world. In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean's adopted daughter. His world-view shattered, Javert commits suicide, and Valjean at last attains the peace he has sought for so long.
This dramatic musical, set in the 1832 revolution in France, is a beautiful story of grace, redemption, and forgiveness. This 51 member cast is made up of some of the most talented performers in the Mid-South area representing over 20 schools in Tennessee and Mississippi. Several cast members are Allie Award winners and many have played lead and supporting roles at DFT and at other area theaters as well.
Shows run April 16 – 25 at the DeSoto Civic Center Theatre in Southaven, and tickets go on sale March 19th at the DeSoto Civic Center Box Office.
