Distinguished Librarian Odie Tolbert Brings Autobiography to U of M

Description: The University Libraries, the University of Memphis with the support of Friends of the Libraries invite you for a book signing and a presentation about the life of Dr. Odie H. Tolbert, Jr., associate professor emeritus, University Libraries, University of Memphis. Mr. George Grant, CEO of Granthouse Publisher,Inc. will make comments on the autobiographical book written by Dr. Tolbert titled “ New Chicago and Beyond.”

Recipient of the university’s Allen J. Hammond Distinguished Service Award , Dr. Tolbert spent 30 years at U of M in the library’s Catalog Department and is also the former National archivist of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) and archivist for Manassas High School. Tolbert’s new book chronicles how the close-knit North Memphis community of New Chicago gave him the foundation and familial support to face incredible odds and deferred career dreams resulting from a hearing loss.
