HOLLY COLE TRIO. Beautiful and talented. These ladies are just stellar! Holly Cole sings a batch of new songs backed by Jana Misener (Giant Bear) on cello and vocals and Krista Wroten (Yazoo Shakes, Black Max) on violin, accordion and vocals. You really shouldn't miss it.

Holly is one of the best singer/songwriters in a prolific crop of Memphis musicians. Holly is a songstress with a sound that isn't from around these parts. An epic flowing sound that may remind you of the expansive West Texas soundscapes of say, Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Lovely acoustic strumming, songs and singing with an undercurrent of atmospheric twangs and echos of saws and other almost undecipherable sounds. Easily one of the most mature and accomplished outings for the local Makeshift label. She recently toured the West Coast including a gig at the Hotel Cafe.

Her first EP Fearless & Free is out on the Makeshift label, is available at makeshiftmusic.com, cdbaby.com. Cat's Records, Last Chance, Shangri-La and Spin Street. Holly is an original but her influences include Cat Power, Maria Taylor, R.E.M., Aimee Mann, Bright Eyes, Clem Snide, Neutral Milk Hotel, EmmyLou Harris, and Rilo Kiley.

GIANT BEAR. This will be a trio performance of the combo with Robert Humphreys - bass, guitar, and vocals, Jana Misener - cello and vocals, and Jeff White - banjo, guitar, and vocals. Look for a full band Giant Bear show soon.

"Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention reincarnated as a modern day folk pop powerhouse." (Cincinnati City Beat)

Giant Bear released their self-titled album in 2007. The album is enormous musically, showcasing a variety of established guest musicians all well-loved in Memphis, adding accordion, pedal steel, Hammond B3 and slide guitar. Despite how big the band’s music is sonically, the songs originate with the theory that music is best when it’s simple and the stories are straightforward.

MICHAELA CAITLIN returns to Otherlands for a solo set. Her debut in a songwriter circle in the fall and was just splendid. Michaela has been making a stir in Memphis, both a solo act and as part of eclectic, electric folk band Sultana. Check her out here...
