What do tracking Teton grizzlies, building hiking trails, and making sunflowers into biodiesel fuel have in common? Answer: The Student Conservation Association.
Founded in 1957 by Liz Putman, the Student Conservation Association has grown from being a college girl’s senior thesis into the largest and oldest youth environmental group in America. Headquartered in Charlestown, NH, the SCA’s vision is and has been to “build the next generation of conservation leaders”.
By providing numerous internships and tuition free summer programs each year, the SCA provides 4000 college and high school age students with hands on opportunities to improve and enhance national parks, wildlife refuges and urban green spaces in all 50 states.
The Little Garden Club of Memphis is delighted to welcome Liz Putnam to Memphis. Please join us on March 18th at 11:00 am in Hardin Hall at the Memphis Botanic Garden to hear first hand
about the SCA, and to learn how Ms. Putnam’s talk, “Our Land, Our Youth, Our Future”, can impact our children and our environment.
This lecture is free and open to the public. For further information contact Chris McClure at mcclurec@comcast.net or Gina White at
