</title><link>http://gomemphis.com/news/2008/nov/30/anthony-hamilton-dazzles-orpheum-crowd/?partner=RSS</link><description>Anthony Hamilton is one of those guys you just root for. Maybe it’s because he spent a decade struggling to make it in the music business before he finally found success with platinum albums and Grammy awards. Or perhaps it’s the fact that he doesn’t posses a particularly overpowering voice or the flashiest dance moves. But there’s just something about Hamilton that makes you pull for the guy.

</title><link>http://gomemphis.com/news/2008/nov/28/cover-story-how-a-soul-singer-got-his-groove/?partner=RSS</link><description>For nearly a decade, singer Anthony Hamilton struggled to find his place in the music business. His career was, for a long time, a litany of professional frustrations and false starts. The 37 year-old singer -- and six-time Grammy nominee -- is frustrated no more. Now one of the brightest stars of contemporary soul music, he makes his return to Memphis, just ahead of the release of a new album, The Point of it All, with a concert at the Orpheum on Saturday.

They're supposed to be fried in the same grease as Dyer's burgers, he wrote. I can't tell you whether it's the legendary grease, but the burger is mighty tasty and the patty melt even better. But the salads are nice, too, making Ubee's a good stop between holiday excess here and there.

</title><link>http://gomemphis.com/news/2008/nov/25/hattiloo-tackles-fences/?partner=RSS</link><description>When stage and screen actor Charles &amp;quot;Roc&amp;quot; Dutton performed his tribute to the late playwright August Wilson in Memphis last year, he talked about the challenges actors face once cast in his plays. Wilson's language, he said, was like Shakespeare. It's nearly impossible for an actor to ad lib out of a dropped line. &amp;quot;Nobody talks like that in real life,&amp;quot; Dutton said of Wilson's singular writing style.

"Right after culinary school I apprenticed at the executive dining room at the Guinness Brewery in Dublin, Ireland, where part of our compensation was two bottles of Guinness per working day." The first food he remembers eating? "My mother's brown bread."

</title><link>http://gomemphis.com/news/2008/nov/25/listen-adaje/?partner=RSS</link><description>Their band name — Adaje (pronounced A-dah-jay) — is originally was a mispronunciation of “attache,” said bassist/singer Wesley Williams, 19. His floor manager at J. C. Penney pronounced the word with a “d,” Williams said. They originally were “Damsel in Disgust” until they went in to record their first EP, said drummer/singer Sameer Shirazee, 14. We were like, ‘We cannot put out an EP with that name.’ We sat there for about 30 minutes.

</title><link>http://gomemphis.com/news/2008/nov/25/concert-preview-those-darlins-find-comfort-between/?partner=RSS</link><description>On paper, Those Darlins might sound more like the concoction of some music biz publicist than a real band. Three fresh-faced photogenic girls — the stage-monikered Nikki Darlin, Jessi Darlin and Kelley Darlin — playing country music armed with acoustic instruments, tight harmonies and a punk rock attitude, all living together in a house in middle Tennessee, like some hillbilly version of the Monkees. But Those Darlins are no put on.

</title><link>http://gomemphis.com/news/2008/nov/24/audiences-destination-is-likely-an-exit/?partner=RSS</link><description>According to the files of The Commercial Appeal, I reviewed &amp;quot; The Transporter&amp;quot; when it was released in 2002. I gave the movie two stars. I had to check the files because my recollections are fuzzy, at best. I can conjure images of a fight with an ax, but to pull anything else about the movie out of my memory bank, I'd probably have to undergo hypnosis. I didn't review &amp;quot;Transporter 2&amp;quot; in 2005, but I did see it at some point, probably on DVD.
