Singer-songwriter Kate Campbell has played all manner of Memphis churches and concert halls, but the venue she keeps coming back to is the Center For Southern Folklore. The Center, when it was located on Beale Street, was one of the first places Campbell performed more that 15 years ago when the former history teacher gave up an academic career to pursue songwriting full time. “The Center is just a really nice place for me,” Campbell says of the nonprofit that, like her songcraft, is dedicated to the preservation of regional history, heritage, and traditions.

Thanks to a restaurant coupon, J. T. Schlichter began playing guitar with Mike Strickland at the Los Pilares restaurants. “It was buy-one-get-one-half-off on any meal at Los Pilares,” recalled Schlichter, 18. Three years ago, Schlichter and his mom visited the restaurant where Strickland was performing. They then began going every Saturday. Schlichter worked his way into Strickland’s act.

The Who at Kilburn: 1977 (Not rated, 120 min.) This North London concert -- the second-to-last live performance for drummer Keith Moon -- was shot with six cameras on 35-millimeter film by director Jeff Stein for his documentary about The Who, "The Kids Are Alright"; the full show -- including such songs as "Can't Explain" and "Baba O'Reilly" -- has never been released to the public until now.

On Tuesday morning, Sally Hughes Smith left her home in Charleston, S.C., in a Grand Caravan loaded with 50 framed canvases destined for Askew Nixon Ferguson architectural firm in Midtown Memphis. "Perpetual Light," which is Smith's fifth one-woman show at Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects, opens today and runs through Dec. 2.
