At age 29, J.D. Reager has spent more than half his life -- well, in some ways all his life -- in the music business. Though he's played in several bands, engineered numerous records, and been onstage since junior high, he's never put out his own album. "And it started to feel like if I didn't put an album out or did something with these songs I had," says Reager, "that I would always regret it." Reager won't have to nurse any regrets, as his solo debut The Repechage is released locally this week.

Schlichter began playing guitar with Mike Strickland at the Los Pilares restaurants. “It was buy-one-get-one-half-off on any meal at Los Pilares,” recalled Schlichter, 18. Three years ago, Schlichter and his mom visited the restaurant where Strickland was performing. They then began going every Saturday. Schlichter worked his way into Strickland’s act.

Massive. That's the only way to describe "The Baroque World of Fernando Botero," currently on exhibit at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Many of the paintings and sculptures, all culled from the Colombian painter's personal collection, are physically huge, dominating entire gallery walls or, in the case of three bronze sculptures called "Smoking Woman," "The Rape of Europa," and "Hand," the courtyard outside the Brooks' main entrance.
