The 37 year-old singer -- and six-time Grammy nominee -- is frustrated no more. Now one of the brightest stars of contemporary soul music, he makes his return to Memphis, just ahead of the release of a new album, The Point of it All, with a concert at the Orpheum on Saturday.

Anthony Hamilton is one of those guys you just root for. Maybe it’s because he spent a decade struggling to make it in the music business before he finally found success with platinum albums and Grammy awards. Or perhaps it’s the fact that he doesn’t posses a particularly overpowering voice or the flashiest dance moves. But there’s just something about Hamilton that makes you pull for the guy.

We've been discussing burgers on Whining & Dining and last week a blogger suggested we give the burgers at Ubee's a try. They're supposed to be fried in the same grease as Dyer's burgers, he wrote. I can't tell you whether it's the legendary grease, but the burger is mighty tasty and the patty melt even better. But the salads are nice, too, making Ubee's a good stop between holiday excess here and there.

When stage and screen actor Charles "Roc" Dutton performed his tribute to the late playwright August Wilson in Memphis last year, he talked about the challenges actors face once cast in his plays. Wilson's language, he said, was like Shakespeare. It's nearly impossible for an actor to ad lib out of a dropped line. "Nobody talks like that in real life," Dutton said of Wilson's singular writing style.
