Best Bets: Pining for Pimiento Cheese
Why, some might call it downright un-American, but we can do worse: If you don't love pimiento cheese, we say you're plainly un-Southern. Good thing there's plenty of the de-lish variety in town. Here's where you'll find it:
By a wide margin (and that's not just because my vote is cast here, too) Holiday Deli and Ham(visit pimentoscafe.com for all locations) wins in our blog vote. We don't know much else about Papa, namesake of the pimiento cheese, but we know he can whip up a tasty PC. The key is the sharp cheddar. For the best combo, eat it on rye. If you're brave, go jalapeno variety.

Not everyone agrees with me on the sharp cheddar, and some like the milder version served up at Wiles-Smith Drug Store(1635 Union Ave; 278-6416). Well, why not? Just be sure to get it on white bread, and don't forget the milkshake.
Mantia's (4856 Poplar; 762-8560) makes a mean pimiento cheese, too, and if you ask nice, maybe someone will slice some house pickles so you can put them on your sandwich and eat pickles and PC, like the old timers do. Try it!
The pimiento cheese at Paradise Cafe (6150 Poplar, #120; 821-9600) has a bit of a kick to it, although not as much as the jalapeno at Holiday. This Regalia spot is a popular choice.
