If anybody wanted a quick briefing on the identities of the Living Ads at the Les Passees Cabaret Ball, photos of the 13 young women were encased in two ice sculptures at the foot of the escalator at the recent event at the Hilton Memphis.
"Reflections of the Past and Promises for the Future" was the theme of the party, which included dinner and dancing to the Soul Shockers.
The high point for most guests was the presentation of the Living Ads. The young women, who entered on the arms of their escorts and were heralded by pages carrying banners, represented businesses and organizations. All taking part in the Living Ads presentation were children of Les Passees members.
Cabaret co-chairs were Beth Higginbotham, Susan Price, Mary Forsdick and Nancy Brooks.
Libby Hubbard is Les Passees Inc. president.
'Fashion Blockbusters'
The National Council of Negro Women Shelby County Section presented its "Hot (Haute) Fashion Blockbusters" Best Dressed Women Fashion Show and Brunch recently at the Memphis Marriott on Thousand Oaks.
All fashions were from the models' personal wardrobes.
Mary Helen Sinclair and Velma Williams were co-chairmen. Deborah G. Harris was fashion commentator. Charlene Turner is organization president.
Having a boll
The Cotton Museum at the Memphis Cotton Exchange held its second fund-raiser recently at Earnestine and Hazel's.
So it was fitting that a framed print of "The New Orleans Cotton Exchange" by Edgar Degas was one of the auction items.
Those who didn't want to just look at a picture of a cotton exchange could bid on item 24: "Have your event on the trading floor of the Memphis Cotton Exchange." That item, valued at $1,300, was donated by The Cotton Museum.

Judging from the pictures of this event, and the video posted on the CA's site, these folks had to try really hard to make the event a whites only one. Who organizes this shindig, David Duke?
