WHINING & DINING
There's a bit of moving and shaking going on in Memphis' restaurant scene, so let's get to it.
The management of Interim Restaurant and Bar has officially taken over the former Daily Grill spot inside the Westin, but don't get too excited yet -- it's still a few weeks before the real new restaurant is opened.

What happened was that at midnight on Wednesday, the Daily Grill closed. One minute later, the simply named Westin Restaurant opened, with Interim operating partners Ben Brock and Jackson Kramer heading it up. There's a new menu, since none of the Daily Grill items are being served, but it's not the menu, which will be unveiled when Sole Restaurant and Raw Bar opens in November.
"It's Jackson's menu, but what we're doing now is setting the groundwork for what we're going to be," Brock said.
The new restaurant will focus on seafood, hence the name. But Kramer, the executive chef, points out that "sole" also means "the only one. And, there's the play on words; he promises plenty of Stax music.
Brock and Kramer will work between both restaurants.
Some of you might have noticed that the Panera Bread banner was down for awhile at the former Buckley's Cordova location. No worries; everything is on schedule to open in early December, according to Kelly Jackson, the director of marketing for the franchise. She also confirmed that construction will begin on the west side of the former Walgreen's location in Laurelwood in the spring, and our second Panera will open there next summer. I hear, from a friend who has bagels shipped in, that Panera makes a pretty good one. Well, she says it's "decent," but that's probably good enough for most of us.
Short takes
Bari has discontinued its lunch service. The bar menu at Cafe 1912 has also been discontinued, but regular dinner service remains the same at both restaurants.
Leonard's BBQ Downtown has opened for dinner from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
Osaka Japanese restaurant will open a location in Olive Branch in late October or early November.
And a Sekisui is in the works for the former Mikasa location at Regalia.
