No doubt that the Philly cheese steak belongs in the rarified company of the muffaletta, the BLT, or the po’ boy. Enough people have said so, after all. But I have to admit, I didn’t really get it until I sank my beef-lovin’ chompers into the sandwich from Heavenly Hoagie.
Now I see what they mean... Here’s the difference between this sandwich and every other Philly cheese steak I’ve tasted: The onions. These were perfectly caramelized. Some were soft and light gold, some were deep brown, and a few were just shy of burned — the perfect mix.
The thinly sliced steak is chopped on the grill, provolone put between two layers to melt, then it’s all stuffed in a hoagie roll. I took mine with a sliced pepper on top, but otherwise, it was pure.
Good stuff.

Jennifer, Went by this weekend to my fave Philly sammie shop to see that Peter has closed it down. Any details on this? He had such a great following of the med/dental students and other area workers, that I am surprised and saddened.
