Chilaquiles with salsa verde, eggs and steak make for an extraordinarily hearty breakfast at Taqueria Garibaldi.
There’s nothing wrong with huevos rancheros, but if it’s Mexican in the morning for me, I take chilaquiles if they’re available. Corn tortillas are simmered in your choice of sauce, red or green and I always go with the green, then covered with more sauce and your choice of toppings.
Consider these from Taqueria Garibaldi with eggs, steak and salsa verde, with a side of rice and beans and two fiery sauces on the side, premium. I’m happy with eggs alone, but at Taqueria Garibaldi, you also get a choice of steak or chicken. Don’t neglect those sauces that come with this: Either will open your eyes and get the full attention of your taste buds.
The chilaquiles are $7.99 and come with chips and salsa. Taqueria Garibaldi on Summer is located in what I believe was the first Taco Bell in Memphis (El Torito Mexican restaurant was there, too, but recently closed). Who knew, back when an enchirito was enough to make us happy, that such wonders as chilaquiles could one day be found up and down Summer Avenue?
Taqueria Garibaldi is at 4159 Summer Avenue. Call 323-7003 for more information.
