Dorothy and James Lynn knew that their twin boys were artistic when they were small children.

"Around the age of 4," Dorothy said. "Because they loved to color and marked all over everything."

The Lynns were among the guests at the opening party for "Twin: Jerry and Terry Lynn, Recent Works" Friday evening at David Lusk Gallery.

Which parent was artistic? "I want to say that I am, but they probably got it from their mother," James said. "I used to draw all the time. In fact, when I first started college I started majoring in commercial art and I switched to architecture."

Terry believes the work in the new show is some of their strongest work. "The work has definitely matured and I think that's a reflection of our maturity," he said.

"This show is more about an internal type of growth, a spiritual growth, personally for myself, versus any other show that we've done," Jerry said.

The exhibit runs through Jan. 31.

Sweet inspiration

Artists included the inspirations for or the tools used to make their artworks in the new exhibit, "ARTifacts -- art & related objects" at Perry Nicole Fine Art.

Laura Painter Stafford included a Bible opened to John 8:36, "If the Son sets you free, you will be freed indeed," next to her painting of her daughter at the beach on a sunny day. Laura used a play on words, so instead of the "Son" sets you free, she used "sun."

For "Blood Knot," a painting of a fisherman tying a blood knot, a type of knot used in old-school fly fishing, Bob Eoff included an actual blood knot.

Other participating artists in the show, which runs through Jan. 31, included John McIntire, Roy Tamboli and Maude Schuyler Clay.

Priscilla: True blue fan

University of Memphis athletic director R. C. Johnson referred to Priscilla Presley as the school's "best Los Angeles Tiger fan" at a reception Wednesday night at the Ambassadors' Room at FedExForum.

Priscilla was in town for Elvis birthday events and to present scholarships in the name of the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation.

One scholarship is for an intern to work in the athletic department and the other is designated for the pompom squad. This is the third time she has presented two such scholarships to U of M.

The reception, which included U of M president Shirley Raines and former Shelby County Mayor Bill Morris, was held prior to the Memphis vs. Marshall game. Priscilla also was honored during halftime.
