News in the arts: Music video could be your 6 minutes of fame

Live From Memphis -- a Web site and arts support-and-production collaborative -- is accepting entries for its fifth annual "Music Video Showcase," scheduled for the Indie Memphis Film Festival in October.

Entries -- not to exceed 6 minutes in length -- will be accepted through Sept. 11. The videos should be made by or focus on area artists.

Typically, the Music Video Showcase is one of the most popular events of the Indie Memphis festival. Past showcases have featured such performers as Al Kapone, the Reigning Sound and Lucero, as well as many lesser-known musicmakers.

Two cash-and-trophy prizes will be awarded after the showcase: a juried award for Best Music Video and an Audience Choice award.

Christmas in August

The Walt Disney "Christmas Carol" train will stop at Central Station, 545 S. Main, on Aug. 4.

The train will be open to the public at the Downtown station from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. as part of a nationwide tour to promote the upcoming Robert Zemeckis film, "Disney's A Christmas Carol," produced with the "performance capture" animation techniques used to create "The Polar Express" and "Beowulf."

The four public, custom-designed cars of the train will contain entertainment, activities and exhibits, including artifacts on loan from the Charles Dickens Museum of London. One car will function as a "Disney Digital 3D Theatre" to offer previews of the movie.
