Eclectic season for performing arts at GPAC, BPACC
Bartlett and Germantown lineups boast Arlo Guthrie, David Sedaris and more
Bartlett and Germantown have each announced acts for the 2009-2010 season in their municipal venues and the selections are eclectic.
In the past 10 years, the Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center has brought in some of the best of a generation to its 350-seat auditorium: Art Garfunkel, Judy Collins, Randy Newman, Richie Havens, the Neville Brothers, Lily Tomlin.
The 2009-2010 season at Germantown Performing Arts Centre includes a performance by Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and "The Rat Pack is Back."

The coming season has similar baby boomer favorites. Arlo Guthrie -- of "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" fame -- will take the stage in March 2010, and Don McLean, who seized a generation's attention with "American Pie," kicks off the season Aug. 22.
BPACC is continuing innovative programming that has been proving successful. The intimate DinnerStage series -- where performers and audience are on the stage -- will feature Nashville poet and storyteller Minton Sparks in March plus Marvell Thomas in October and Kevin and Bethany Page in November. The similarly set up TheatreStage performances include "Any Wednesday" and "Steel Magnolias."
In addition, the Missoula Children's Theatre's touring program will give three performances in the coming season.
The 2009-2010 season at the Germantown Performing Arts Centre includes an appearance by author David Sedaris, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and the tuneful "The Rat Pack is Back."
The season also boasts a strong international component with the Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company, the Soweto Gospel Choir and Japan's TAO: The Martial Art of Drumming.
GPAC executive director Tania Castroverde Moskalenko says, "Despite the economy, we've been able to assemble an all-star season again." Youth and educational programs are also and important part of GPAC offerings. "We recently announced a new youth symphony orchestra and that's really exciting for us to be able to start that kind of program during these times especially."
