Rapper Mr. Del

A former member of local Southern crunk superstars Three 6 Mafia, Delmar Lawrence, a.k.a. the rapper Mr. Del, left the group in 2000 after a religious conversion. But while he may have abandoned his former group’s hard-partying lifestyle, he remains as devoted as ever to that South Memphis beat.

Tonight Mr. Del, who has become known as the “king of Christian crunk” for his unique take on gospel rap, celebrates the release of his third solo CD, "Thrilla", as well as his new Dedicated Music Group label with a free showcase at Café Soul in downtown’s South Main District.

Distributed by Universal Music Group, Dedicated is being touted as the city’s first urban/hip-hop gospel label and has already signed artists Movement of Truth and Mali Music, a Savannah rapper whose "The 2econd Coming" comes out July 14th.

Cafe Soul is at 492 South Main St. Doors open at 8 p.m.
