Memphis singer Lil Rounds survived another week on Fox's “American Idol,” after the results were revealed on tonight's broadcast from Los Angeles.
Halfway into the program she was declared safe by host Ryan Seacrest, who pointed out that contestants from previous seasons – Jennifer Hudson, notably – hadn’t fared as well after singing Martha and the Vandellas’ “Heat Wave.”
The judges were ambiguous about Rounds' performance, saying that while she sounded authentic, there were was no standout moment in the tune.
Over 36 million votes were cast for the 10 finalists, more than on any previous top-10 round. In the end, Michael Sarver, the Texas oil worker, got the lowest votes and had to sing to stay on the show. Simon was the decider: “Michael, you’re going home.”
