A chill to the air brings chili to the mind, whether made at home or picked up ata restaurant.
Beef stew, potato soup, and most of all, chili: Those are the three foods I crave when fall comes. Making them at home is preferred, but sometimes you just don't want to bother. I recently asked Whining & Dining bloggers where to get good chili and this is what they had to offer:
Jim B joins a group of folks who like fast-food chili. His favorite is Steak 'n Shake (multiple locations): "Steak 'n Shake chili has never changed, and it is very good. It is used on their chili mac and chili three-ways, too."
Carole H says to head to Wendy's (multiple locations). "Wendy's chili is pretty darn good for fast food. But some of my former co-workers agree that the location on Walnut Grove and Humphreys, adjacent to Baptist Hospital, has the best in the Wendy's chain here in town."
Houston's (5000 Poplar; 683-0915) is where Jenny goes, but only on Saturdays. "Houston's has fabulous chili, but you can only get it on Saturdays. It is made with chunks of steak, vs. ground beef, and that is the only way I make my chili."
Todd says: "Court House Deli (22 S Main; 527-2253) has a good cup/bowl of chili that you can get topped with cheese, onions, and jalapenos."
And don't forget the alligator chili at Bayou Bar and Grill (2094 Madison; 278-8626). Neil just had a bowl: "I was just at the Bayou Bar and Grill this weekend and had the gator chili for the first time in around 15 years. It is still as good as ever."
