"I love Memphis," said veteran rocker Eddie Money. "I'm very close to this town."

Eddie was the featured entertainer at the AutoZone Liberty Bowl Presidents' Gala Friday evening at The Peabody. He also performed at the half time show at Saturday's game between East Carolina University and University of Arkansas.

Eddie, who has sold more than 28 million records, performed his hits, including "Two Tickets to Paradise," "Take Me Home Tonight" and "Walk on Water." Following Eddie's show, AutoZone Liberty Bowl president Kevin Kane presented the performer with the 2009 Outstanding Achievement Award.

"We always want to honor a great entertainer in the tradition of Danny Thomas," said AutoZone Liberty Bowl executive director Steve Ehrhart.

Danny founded St. Jude Children's Research Hospital "around the time the Liberty Bowl came to Memphis. There's a great intertwine between St. Jude, the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and honoring a distinguished citizen who has contributed in the field of entertainment. So, every year we have a great entertainer who has stood the test of time."

Also performing during the evening were Andy Childs and Hudson & Saleeby.

New year twice as nice at The Peabody

A blue moon in the sky outside and silver and gold balloons in nets on ceilings inside set the stage for New Year's Eve festivities Thursday at The Peabody.

Guests attended one or both of the hotel's parties. The rock and hip-hop WildSide party featured music by Al Kapone, Saving Abel and DJ Mark Anderson in the Grand Ballroom.

The Scene, a mellower party in the Continental Ballroom and the lobby area, featured Andy Childs, DJ Cody Rogers and the John Felix Trio.

When the countdown was completed at midnight, the nets released the balloons and kissing ensued.

I saw Eddie Money at the Delta Fair this past fall. One of the laziest performances I've ever seen. His backing musicians/vocalists gave very good performances but Eddie totally phoned it in. Note to Eddie: Try remembering all the lyrics to your songs (preferably the CORRECT lyrics) and singing them instead of constantly yapping and doing a lame job of trying to play the crowd.
