Organizers for the Memphis in May International Festival confirmed nearly 60-acts for the event, set for April 30 to May 2 at Tom Lee Park.

Other notable artists set to play include R&B legend Bobby “Blue” Bland, new wave popsters the B-52s, singer-songwriter John Hiatt, indie folk outfit Band of Horses and rap-rockers Limp Bizkit.

They join a list of previously confirmed performers including country and bluegrass queen Alison Krauss and Union Station, pop-soul duo Hall & Oates, guitar hero Jeff Beck, and psych-pop showmen The Flaming Lips.

“It was a challenging year for the industry across the country, with many festivals struggling to find relevant talent,” said Memphis in May executive vice-president Diane Hampton. “This is certainly a relevant lineup and one that will draw folks.”

“The uniqueness of this event has always been the diversity among the artists that perform,” added Hampton. “From Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland to Limp Bizkit — there’s not that many festivals that can claim that range of acts, and that’s a variety we always strive for.”

As is tradition, the festival will also have a heavy local and regional component. Sun Records piano man Jerry Lee Lewis, blues trio the North Mississippi Allstars, Stax Records icons Booker T. & the MGs and hip-hopper Al Kapone are among the Memphis favorites slated to perform.

“This is the most musically significant event in Memphis,” said Hampton, “and I think our responsibility is to promote Memphis and its musical heritage to the rest of the world, and this group of local artists certainly does that well.”
