Memphis Ballet marks 25th anniversary

Ballet Memphis celebrates its 25th anniversary in the fall with a retrospective of popular works and a new ballet by Julia Adam based on "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

Other season highlights include "Angels in the Architecture," Mark Godden's Shaker-inspired work set to "Appalachian Spring," and company member Steven McMahon's production of "Cinderella" from the 2008-09 season.

The company will also host two fundraising events, "Connections: Food," which pairs choreographers with local chefs on Sept. 24, and a special production at The Peabody on April 28.

Ballet Memphis' 2011-12 season:

Oct. 22-30: "2BLoved" -- Choreographer Julia Adam's new ballet based on "The Little Prince" is partnered with Trey McIntyre's 2004 work, "The Naughty Boy" at Playhouse on the Square.

Dec. 2-4: "The Nutcracker" -- Tchaikovsky's score will be played live by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra at the Orpheum theater.

Feb. 17-19: AbunDANCE: Reflections -- A retrospective of previous works at Playhouse on the Square.

April 14-15: "Cinderella" -- A revival of the ballet choreographed by Steven McMahon for the 2008-09 season at the Orpheum.
