Dean Deyo wore his first pair of five-inch stacked heels Friday night.

"My arches right now are crying," he said. "So are my calves."

Dean, president of the Memphis Music Foundation, and his wife, Kathy, hosted the first Maximus Elevenus party at The Warehouse off South Main. The fundraiser for the foundation celebrated 11/11/11, but the 1980s was the theme. Guests were encouraged to dress like big-haired rock stars.

In addition to his glitter-decorated shoes, Dean wore a large curly wig, sunglasses and skin-tight zebra print pants. "The Spandex feels rather nice," he admitted.

Asked where he got the pants, Dean said, "You can get anything on the Internet."

Mick Walker a.k.a. Eldorado del Rey from the band Eldorado and the Ruckus, went with tight pants, too, but he just borrowed a pair of his wife's. He, Jason Freeman and John Pickle also wore big-hair wigs. The 1984 film "This is Spinal Tap" was shown at the party, which also featured live music, karaoke, Guitar Hero, drinks, barbecue and red beans and rice.

Maximus Elevenus officially ended at 11:11 p.m.

Wine for Wishes

The Make-A-Wish Associate Board of Memphis launched its new networking organization aimed at young professionals with a party, Wine for Wishes, on Thursday night at the Center for Southern Folklore.

NEW (Networking and Empowering Wishes) Crew "is going to be one of our arms of fundraising," said Justin Dyer, Associate Board chairman.

The Associate Board is made up of 13 members. "We're not the final board of directors," Justin said. "We are another board made up of 25- to 40-year-old professionals.

"The goal of the Associate Board is to raise awareness of Make-A-Wish for young professionals age group 25 to 40. We're going to do that in two ways: One is events like Wine for Wishes, and the other is ... NEW Crew."

The party featured wine tastings, food catered by Wade & Co. and music by Two Mule Plow. Brittney Rogers was event chairman. Seth Regenold is NEW Crew chairman.

Orpheum Auction

More than one pair of eyes looked longingly at the blue 1965 Mustang Coupe at Saturday night's Orpheum Auction.

The professionally restored car with a rag roof -- and an appraised value of $30,000 -- was featured in the "Raffle for the Arts" drawing. Tickets were $100.

A large black-and-white picture of Bela Lugosi as Dracula also turned heads in the silent auction. More than $450,000 in merchandise was featured at the theater's 33rd auction. Auction items included artwork, jewelry, certificates to restaurants and vacation packages. Chairs decorated and painted by area artists also were included.

Snuggie Pub Crawl

Some people went the extra mile with the Snuggies -- the blanket with sleeves -- they wore to the third annual Beale Street Snuggie Pub Crawl on Saturday night.

Justin Hipner's Snuggie -- and helmet -- were decorated with 30 feet of luminescent wire. The glowing Justin said he was "Tron Snuggie."

Some just wore unadorned Snuggies. Asked what he was supposed to be, Jesse Zellner, who was dressed in a plain olive green Snuggie, said, "I'm just waiting till someone has a great idea and I'm going with it."

The crawl began at Kooky Canuck and ended with an afterparty at Rum Boogie. A portion of the proceeds will go to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

Signature Chefs Auction

If you've never tasted hog and hominy, you could have sampled it at the recent March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction at the Hilton Memphis.

It's a stew that includes roasted pork belly, hominy, tomatoes, onions, celery, radishes and Dijon vinaigrette. Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman from Andrew Michael's Italian Restaurant served it at their tasting station. The dish will be served at their upcoming new restaurant, Hog and Hominy, Andrew said.

Guests tried an array of cuisine. Twenty food stations, including catering companies, were included in the fundraiser. Erling Jensen from Erling Jensen: The Restaurant was lead chef. The elegant evening also included live and silent auctions.

Steve Conley and Karen Perrin were emcees. John Roebuck was auctioneer.

Melanie and Kerr Tigrett were honorary chairmen of the event. Anne Bradley Thomas was event chairwoman.

'A Taste of Playhouse'

Guests had to learn a line or two at "Curtain Up: A Taste of Playhouse" on Saturday night at Playhouse on the Square.

If they wanted to get into the "speakeasy" in the theater's basement, they had to say "Suzy Q sent me," or "Frankie G. sent me." They then were allowed to enter a room that resembled most people's idea of a speakeasy, complete with bar and bandstand.

Three floors were used for the Playhouse on the Square fundraiser. Each floor featured live music and different party themes. Performers included Magic Kids, Tout Le Mon, Nay-Nay and The Do Right Boys, Black Max and Grace Askew.
