Rory Kennedy, left, and Ethel Kennedy, from the film "Ethel," pose for a portrait during the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
Ethel Kennedy prefers coming to the Sundance Film Festival when she's not the star of a movie.
She has been to Sundance in the past to see films by her daughter, documentary filmmaker Rory Kennedy. This time, the widow of U.S. Sen. Robert Kennedy is the focus of her daughter's film, the Sundance premiere "Ethel."
Ethel Kennedy said she likes it better coming to Sundance "just to see Rory's films."
Though initially reluctant when her daughter proposed the documentary, Ethel Kennedy opens up on screen with candid recollections about the family, including falling in love at first sight with her future husband on a ski trip to Canada.
"He was standing in front of an open fireplace," she said in an interview alongside her daughter. "I walked in the door and turned and saw him, and I thought, 'Whoa.' "
"Ethel" airs later this year on HBO.
Gala to benefit Make It Right
Ellen Degeneres and "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson are hosting a star-studded gala March 10 in New Orleans to benefit Brad Pitt's Make It Right home rebuilding effort.
Pitt launched the Make It Right Foundation in 2007 to help Lower 9th Ward residents who lost their homes during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Pitt worked with architects to come up with designs for stronger, safer and more energy-efficient houses than the ones residents lost.
Pitt is attending the $1,000-a-seat gala that will include performances by Sheryl Crow, Rihanna, Seal, the Neville family and Dr. John.
Chesney leads ACM nominees
Kenny Chesney has come roaring back in terms of industry recognition with a field-dominating nine nominations for this year's Academy of Country Music Awards.
The runner-up for most nods was Jason Aldean, who collected six, ahead of Lady Antebellum with five, Brad Paisley with four and Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Grace Potter and the Eli Young Band with three apiece, academy officials announced Thursday.
Rihanna to star on design show
Rihanna has found a unique way of getting some new stage outfits.
The musical superstar from Barbados will be hunting for undiscovered design talent in Britain on a new TV show for Sky Living HD -- as yet unnamed -- in which she will be the executive producer and the star.
Hosting duties will go to Nicola Roberts from the U.K. group Girls Aloud.
