Readers beat The Commercial Appeal movie critic John Beifuss at picking Oscar winners, and the lucky 10 won 20 free Malco movie passes.
Today, this newspaper launches its 16th annual "Beat Beifuss at the Oscars" contest, which has drawn more than 23,000 participants since its debut in 1997, when "The English Patient" was named Best Picture.
This is the contest that gives you a chance to win 20 Malco movie tickets by demonstrating your skills as an Academy Awards prognosticator.
Look at the online edition of The Commercial Appeal for the "Beat Beifuss" link, or go to gomemphis.com/beatbeifuss. There, you will find a contest ballot listing the Oscar nominees in 10 major categories. Make your picks, and enter.
Beifuss will make his Oscar guesses in these 10 categories on Feb. 26, in the newspaper's M section and online. The Academy Awards show airs that night.
Each person whose Oscar guesses are more accurate than Beifuss' will be eligible to win 20 movie tickets. Ten winners will be chosen. If more than 10 people beat Beifuss, the winners will be drawn at random from that number.
We'll announce the names of the winners of the contest online and in the Go Memphis section on March 2.
