Humes Marker Dedication

10 a.m. Humes Middle School (formerly Humes High School), 659 N. Manassas. Join Elvis’ high school classmates as they have a plaque dedicated in the King’s honor at the site of Elvis’ former high school in Memphis. Seating inside the auditorium will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center Elvis Week Fan Reception

10 a.m. Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center, 877 Jefferson. Features Carol and James Light, founders of the “Memories of Elvis” souvenir shop. Light refreshments will be served and tours of the trauma center will be conducted.

Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest Showcase

1 p.m. Elvis Week Main Stage, Graceland. See some of the semifinalists for the 2013 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest showcase their talents as they prepare for the ultimate contest. Tickets: $20; call Graceland reservations at 800-238-2000 or 901-332-3322.

“Viva Las Vegas” Movie and Dance Party

WEDNESDAY

Conversations on Elvis

1 p.m. Elvis Week Main Stage, Graceland. Hosted by Tom Brown, vice president of Original Productions for Turner Classic Movies, this event lets fans hear from those who worked closest with Elvis. Guests include Mother Dolores Hart, who starred alongside Elvis in “Loving You” and “King Creole” and left Hollywood to enter a contemplative monastery; T.G. Sheppard, who formed a close personal and professional relationship with Elvis while promoting records for RCA; and representatives from Sony who will be talking about the new Elvis at Stax release and joined by bassist Norbert Putnam, who was part of the studio band for Elvis’ December 1973 recording session at Stax. Elvis Gospel Celebration

Memorial Mass for the Repose of the Soul of Elvis Presley

Candlelight Vigil

8:30 p.m. Gates of Graceland. After an opening ceremony, fans are invited to walk up the driveway to Elvis’ gravesite and back down carrying a candle in quiet remembrance. Free admission. No tickets or reservations. Gates remain open until all who wish to participate in the procession have done so, which typically takes until the early morning hours of Aug. 16, the anniversary date of Elvis’ passing. Free secured parking at the Graceland visitor center complex after 6 p.m.

AUG. 16

George Klein’s Elvis Memorial Service

Noon. Main Theatre Building, University of Memphis. Free admission. Annual event hosted by George Klein, longtime friend of Elvis. Speakers will include friends and family of Elvis and celebrity guests. For more information, contact the U of M department of communication at 901-678-2565.

“Aloha from Hawaii” 40th anniversary enhanced screening

7:30 p.m. Orpheum theater, 203 S. Main. Special enhanced screening of Elvis’ landmark 1973 television event, “Aloha from Hawaii.” The remastered video is featured in high-definition and will feature performance from former members of J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet (Bill Baize, Donnie Sumner, Ed Hill, Larry Strickland).
