I am always pleased and encouraged to read enlightened and sensible letters in The Commercial Appeal. Our area possesses a number of very intelligent readers. I found the letter from the gentleman regarding the divisive nature of religion very timely and appropriate, “One writer’s heaven”. It is very true that man-made belief systems divide and alienate us.
Religions were all created for the purpose of controlling the populace. Using fear and threats of an imaginary “Hell” (first invented by the ancient Persians) proved a very easy way to control the less enlightened members of society.
True spiritual wisdom comes from seeking truth and validation within ourselves rather than in imaginary gods created as a means of controlling others. All human beings should honor each other by allowing each of us to seek our own inner spiritual path and not trying to force our narrow beliefs on others.
