Dave Darnell

Dave Darnell spent three summers as an intern at The Commercial Appeal, beginning in 1965, and became a Staff Photographer in 1970. He was promoted to the position of Chief Photographer in 1992. He has won numerous state, regional and national awards for sports, news and feature photography. In 2007, he became Photo Editor for Administration, a position in which he edits local and wire service photographs two days each week, edits the Mid-South Memories photographs and take photographs three days each week. He also handles many of the administrative duties within the Photographic Department. He has photographed subjects ranging from Elvis to Sinatra, six occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and more sports figures and assorted sports and news events than he can remember.
