Written on Promoter, musician Cato Walker III dies:

Rest easy, Mr. Walker.

Written on Casting call for Memphis girl with grit, not grits, for Coen Brothers movie:

I believe, with the right makeup and filters, that I could play 16...

(Well, maybe not, but a girl can dream, can't she? I'd LOVE to be in a Coen Brothers movie.)

Written on News in the Arts: Handy Awards honor Green for life's work:

Congratulations, Herman, we love you and are so proud of you!

Written on Two-night concert to aid ailing beacon of Lamplighter:

Thanks for covering this, CA. Should be some great music. Good luck Shirley!

Written on Disc Reviews: FreeWorld's "From the Bluff' best when band let loose:

The FreeWorld song, "Down On The Bluff" is an example of absolutely beautiful songwriting.

It is interesting to me, as someone who owns every disc by FreeWorld, and has been entertained by them for a very long time, to read the reviews over the years. For years and years, the media hated the "free jam"-- and wasn't shy about letting people know it.

So now, the songs are "too compartmentalized"? C'mon-- for years the criticism has been, "too free-flowing, not enough structure."

Make up your damn minds.

But whatever you do, go and see these guys. They are the best working musicians in town, and Dr Herman Green is a Memphis treasure. Too bad this review didn't get printed last week, since there was a benefit for Herman this weekend.

Get the disc too, you won't regret it.

Written on Film Review: Just gloom in Holocaust film 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas':

Read the book last year and I can't imagine the movie being any better than it. Of course, that's the case for most movies based on books. I suggest reading the book before seeing the movie. My 11 year old stepson loved it.

Written on None:

Infinite Jest is one of my favorite books.

How sad for the family, he was so young. I'll miss his writing.
