Yes! I'm thrilled that you guys brought back the star system. As for this review, your descriptions and critiques of the dishes were great. I hope that this is the start of a new chapter in the CA dining section :)

I think you hit the nail on the head. You said everything that I would have said only more elegantly. The star system provided guidance and direction towards restaurants to lend ourselves to. Now, it seems that every restaurant is rated as the best thing since Ferran Adria. In addition to Frank Bruni, Jay Rayner, author of "The Man Who Ate the World," is an excellent critic whose writing is lucid and "mouthwatering."

In his book, Rayner explains how critics in London had to write just so in order to grab readers, for fear of losing a reader to one of many critics in town. He notes that a critic in America is at times lackadaisical because he/she is often the only critic in town. The moral of the story being that competition brings out the best...
