I saw the interview with Matt Lauer.

Obama was right: Kanye is a jacka$$.

Written on Memphis writer explores legacy of '80s indie-rock pioneers Hüsker Dü:

Hey Andrew,

You say "It's strange to me that they're not as highly regarded as they should be."

But their fourth album "New Day Rising", the one you snooped at your friend's house, is ranked #495 in the Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums list, right after Cyndi Lauper's "She's So Unusual" and just before "Destroyer" by Kiss.

I'd say to be on the list at all, especially being an original album (not a compilation as many on the list are) is quite an accomplishment.

Thanks for the book -- sounds like they were every bit as dysfunctional as that most famous of punk bands, the one that played Memphis in January 1978 on their only U.S. tour. The Sex Pistols, of course!

Written on People: Aerosmith's Tyler denies rumors he has quit band:

I think Aerosmith has been in decline ever since the release of their greatest work, their double-LP "The White Album". Their hit "House of the Rising Sun" has some really intense guitar riffs, and who can forget their megahit "I Am The Walrus"?

Steve Perry was always a great stage performer -- it's clear all those years of touring with Rod Stewart of Fleetwood Mac paid off handsomely.

I'm pretty sure this whole overblown incident is Yoko Ono's fault, though. I hear she has a history....

I count myself as one who is both Michelle Shocked and Barack Hussein Shocked.

Written on Jamie Foxx hits road on a high note with 'Blame It' tour:

Foxx says "we are in a sensitive time now" and then compares himself to Don Rickles.

Don Rickles made a career out of ridiculing people. But he never said anything that he wouldn't have said to the face of the person being ridiculed. And the person being ridiculed ALWAYS knew it was part of the Don Rickles act. It was in jest; Don Rickles was an icon, like Bob Hope, and in that sense being ridiculed by Don Rickles was an honor. Like being the butt of a joke at a celebrity roast. Don Rickles was a class act.

If I were Miley Cyrus' dad (Billie Ray Cyrus, famous country musician) and Jamie Foxx or any other 'comedian' made crude jokes (including sex jokes) about my 16-year old daughter, I couldn't have resisted defending her honor. Physically, if it were done in her presence or mine.

If you are wondering what Foxx and his sidekicks said, here's the link. But I have to warn you, it's more profane and graphic than the above article implies:

To his credit, Foxx did half-heartedly apologize on the Tonight Show for his remarks about Miley Cyrus. But it happened after he came under pressure, and as mentioned in the above article, he never understood why he had to apologize, just as he never understood why Letterman apologized over his crude jokes about Sarah Palin's daughter.
