Beifuss, it's one thing to insert bias into a column. It's another thing entirely to promote historical inaccuracies. The United States was not in a recession in 1987 as you imply.

If it weren't for your well-known political leanings, I'd chalk this up as a mistake by somebody with a poor recall of U.S. history. Instead, I'm pretty sure it was an intentional falsehood. You might have hated the Reagan-era 1980s for assorted ideological reasons, but most of us would love to be in those kinds of "hard times" rather than the current and unfortunate mess.
