@linworkman - Your art exhibit in the lobby was by far the best thing about this show. I agree the Halloween friendly shows are a good idea. It's too bad you missed the Dracula -- it was excellent. Both creepy and campy.@downsizediva - You're right; the green radiation or whatever was totally out of place. Most of the sound effects were overdone, as was the music, even for melodrama. The waterfall, on the other hand...
Someone has a loved one in the show, a tendency to attack the critic rather than his argument, and a mouse button that sticks.
Saw it opening weekend. This review is too kind.
Great show! Keep up the good work.
The fish tacos at this place are INSANE! Likewise, the homemade guacamole dip. Pepe is doing a great job bringing authentic Mexican food (as opposed to Tex-Mex) to Germantown. Jonathan is an impressive spokesman for their philosophy as restaurateurs. So it costs an extra ten bucks. Big whoop; it's WORTH IT!
The Flight of the Creative Class by Richard Florida
Very good production. Kallen in good voice Tuesday night; a little tense in Act One, but really splendid after. The two male leads had terrific voices and the performance was heartily approved by the audience. My only real beef: it wouldn't cost Opera Memphis much to ratchet the production values up a bit. Alfredo's rubber knee boots, though fine from a distance, were pretty obviously rubber from the first 20 rows of the orchestra section. He's the male lead, he has a total of 3 costumes, can we spring an additional $100 for a pair of better boots, Michael Ching? It wouldn't cost much more to make it look like it cost a lot more.
Good show, OM. Cut corners in places that don't show so much.
